How to Get a Marriage License
You must obtain a marriage license from a county clerk's office in the state of Colorado before your wedding ceremony can be performed.
License Fee: $10, Extra copies of your certificate are available for an additional fee, usually $1-3. Some counties in Colorado may require CASH so bring it just in case!
What You'll Need: You will need an ID to prove that both parties are over the age of 18. Acceptable proof includes a driver's license, state ID card, birth certificate, or passport. Divorced persons must provide the approximate date of divorce and a location where the decree was issued. If the divorce occurred within 90 days of the request for a marriage license, you will also need to present a copy of the decree. If you are widowed, you will need to provide the date you were widowed.
What's Next: Your marriage license is valid for 30 days... After you receive the license, you must have the marriage solemnized (ceremony performed) and return the license to the county clerk and recorder’s office within 30 days. The marriage ceremony may be performed by:
a judge (retired or active)
a magistrate
any public official authorized to perform marriages
any person recognized as authorized to perform marriages by
any religious denomination
any Indian nation
any Indian tribe
the people getting married
Note: Friends or relatives may only perform the ceremony if they are in the list above.
If one or both parties are under age 18, contact a county clerk and recorder’s office for details on consent you must have. Once you have the proper consent, you will need to follow the same directions as when both parties are over age 18.
There is no waiting period and NO blood tests or other tests are required.
You do NOT need to be a resident of Colorado to get a marriage license. The marriage of International guests will be considered legal and valid in your home country if it is performed in accordance with Colorado state law. here!
